Questions
Why are there two ceremonies?
We wanted to honor and embrace both Christian and Hindu traditions. Having two ceremonies allows us to incorporate the rituals and blessings from both religions. It's a joyful blending of traditions, showcasing the richness of different cultures and the unity of our relationship. We can't wait to share this celebration of love with you!
I've never been to an Indian wedding before. What can I expect?
Get ready for a vibrant and joyous experience! Indian weddings are known for their colorful decor and rich traditions. The wedding ceremony is filled with meaningful rituals like the baraat (groom's entrance) exchange of garlands, the circling of the sacred fire, and the tying of the auspicious wedding knot, and a Hindu guru will guide the ceremony. These rituals symbolize love, commitment, and the union of two families. Regardless of your religious background, everyone is warmly invited to take part in the traditions and share in the joyous celebration.
What should I wear to the Hindu ceremony and where can I buy Indian clothes?
Don't hesitate to embrace the opportunity to wear Indian clothing if you'd like, but it's absolutely fine to attend in formal Western attire as well. Indian wedding guests often dress in traditional attire, such as sarees, lehengas, shararas or anarkalis for women and kurta-pajamas or sherwanis for men. If you live in New Jersey, you can find many Indian clothing shops in Edison - some recommendations are Nazranaa and Fashion Queen. There are also many places to buy Indian clothes online - some recommendations are Lashkaraa, Indya and Panash India.
I've never been to a Christian wedding before. What can I expect?
Get ready for a beautiful and meaningful experience! Christian weddings involve prayers, scripture readings, vows, and the exchange of rings and an Episcopal priest will guide the ceremony. The ceremony is about celebrating the love of the couple and God's love for all of us. Regardless of your religious background, everyone is warmly invited to take part in the traditions and share in the joyous celebration.
What kind of food will there be?
We're thrilled to offer a diverse culinary experience at our wedding! Our menu will feature a mix of Indian, American, and other cuisines, served buffet-style. We understand the importance of catering to different dietary preferences, and there will be a variety of vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options available as well.
Do you have a registry?
Your presence and well wishes are the most important gift to us, but if you would like to give a physical or monetary gift, we have created a registry to make it easier for you to choose something meaningful and there will be a table at the Saturday evening reception for cards and gifts.
What if I can't make it to all of the events?
We would love for you to attend any event that you can make it to, and we completely understand if you can't make it to everything. Please just make sure to let us know which events you plan to attend via the RSVP page. This way we can plan ahead and make sure every detail is perfect for your attendance.
Can I bring a guest?
We're thrilled that you'll be joining us for our special day! We kindly request that you only bring the individuals listed on your invitation.
Can I take pictures at the wedding and post on social media?
Of course! We'd love for you to take pictures during the lunch and evening receptions and post on your social media channels. However, our ceremonies will be "unplugged" and we ask that you do not use your phones or take photos during the ceremonies. We've hired a photographer and videographer so the ceremonies will be well documented and we'll be sure to share the pictures with you as soon as we have them!
I still have questions. How can I get in contact with you?
We'd be happy to answer any additional questions you might have! Please email us at parthmeg2024@gmail.com.
